Fujifilm has announced the new X-A7 mirrorless camera, a $700 entry-level mirrorless X Series camera that replaces the X-A5.
“The X-A7’s compact, lightweight form factor, outstanding image quality, and multitude of new and enhanced features position it as an ideal and timely entry into Fujifilm’s popular family of X Series mirrorless cameras,” Fujifilm says.

At the core of the 11.3oz (320g) camera is a new 24.2-megapixel APS-C (1.5x crop factor) sensor with an ISO range of 200-12800 (expandable to 100-51200). The camera has a continuous shooting speed of 6fps.

Compared to the sensor in the X-A5, the new sensor packs 8.5 times more phase-detection pixels across its surface. The autofocus and face-detection capabilities are improved, and the camera is better at shooting moving subjects and in low-light.
There’s also “industry-leading copper wiring to reduce digital noise, to ensure images and video are processed quickly and to ensure the best possible image quality,” Fujifilm says.

The enhanced data readout speed allows for smooth a 30fps framerate while shooting 4K video, and you’ll find less of a rolling shutter effect in your footage when filming fast-moving subjects or when doing fast camera pans.

There’s no built-in viewfinder, but on the back of the camera is a 3.5-inch 2.76-million-dot viewfinder. It’s a flip-out articulating touchscreen LCD, so you can shoot from a wide range of angles and touch, tap, and swipe to adjust settings and effects.
