Photo Idea: How to Shoot the ‘Perfect’ Wedding Photo in 6 Steps

Ed Greggory of Photos in Color has put together a 3 minute guide that will show you how to shoot the so-called “perfect wedding photo” in just 10 steps. We’re not sure about that “perfect” bit, but it’s a fun idea that’s worth checking out.

“You know that perfect wedding photograph with the confetti, the guests and the married couple laughing and having a great time?” writes Greggory in the video description. “Well it’s simple to get you just have to follow these 10 wedding photography tips.”

It’s clear Greggory doesn’t shy away from hyperbole—and calling this the ‘perfect’ wedding photo is definitely hyperbole—but the results are fun, seemingly candid, and will make a good addition to your wedding photo repertoire. So here we go. How to shoot a fun [fixed it] wedding photo in 6 [fixed it] easy steps:

1. Grab a DSLR and a wide-angle lens.
2. Set the aperture to f/8 and shutter speed to at least 1/250th of a second.
3. Set the camera to Burst mode.
4. Prep the bride a groom, explaining that you need them to walk into the confetti holding hands, looking at one another, laughing and smiling.
5. Prep the guess, giving everyone a handful of confetti and instructing them to throw up and over, not AT, the bride and groom.
6. Get low and shoot up at the bride and groom among their guests.
